The Task
When John and Cheryl McCarthy began their new build project, their brief was that they wanted lots of light with a traditional feel to the front of the house and modern feel to the rear.
The Solution
A visit to the Senator showroom inspired many of Cheryl and John’s ideas. They chose a neutral tone throughout. They like the look of sash windows, so selected them for the front of the house and they decided to put casement windows to the rear for more light as it’s east facing. With a young family living here, they opted for adding child-proof safety catches and restrictors to the windows. The restrictor allows you to open the window wide enough for ventilation but not compromise security or child safety.
uPVC French doors as well as a large aluminium lift & slide door in the kitchen open directly on to the patio area. One of Cheryl’s favourite areas of the house is the aluminium corner picture window in the kitchen as it catches all the morning light and allows an uninterrupted view of the fields and the play area.
A long picture window lets the evening sunlight flood the front of the house and allows a nice view of the sky and surrounds. Sentinel Composite Doors were chosen to complete the look. A Bunratty solid door in blue, with sidelights, arch top light, chrome doctors’ knocker and Georgian bar details adds a traditional look to the front of the house. For the back of the house they went for the Ormond and Johnstown doors in 7038 Grey for a more contemporary feel.
Cheryl and John recommend driving around and looking at other houses for inspiration and ideas. They feel the best advice that they received from their Senator sales representative was to make sure that what they chose was timeless and not based on trend and to stay neutral as it’s easy to tie in colours etc.
